Listen, Sparky is a voice controlled prototype of a game.

The prototype is created to run a study as part of a master's thesis at the university of Bremen.

You are a shepherd and to your side is your loyal sheepdog Sparky. Unfortunately all of your sheep escaped from the meadow, because the gate was left open. Luckily you have Sparky to your aid helping you to collect and bring back your sheep. Sparky listens to every command you say with your actual voice. You can navigate him through a variety of tricky levels. But make sure that your poor sheep stay away from the hungry wolf...

We would love you to be part of our study

After playing our prototype we would like to ask you to participate in the study we are currently running. Following questionnaire will not cost you more than 10 minutes of your time, promised.

Technical and privacy note

The game uses a microphone to record the voice. Recordings only take place, as long as the space bar is pressed. Every voice recording (maximum 2,5 seconds each) is sent to the Google Speech API. The data is not stored or collected in any way and not even accessible to the creators of the game. The data is by no means personalised and not identifiable.

Having trouble opening the application on a Mac?

Do not double click the app, instead use right click - context menu - open. MacOS sometimes doesn't like internet-downloaded games.

This game was really enjoyable! I haven't seen speech detection implemented like this in a game before. My only suggestion is you could have an in-game setting to change your Input Device, instead of having to go to the sound control panel to check my Default mic. Other than that, this was great! The game has some leniency to account for the speech loading times and it was fun to play. Looking forward as to how this concept can be developed.

Hey mate, thank you for playing Listen Sparky! Really enjoyed watching you and glad that you had fun playing it!

And thanks for your feedback regarding the sound control. We added a slider to increase / decrease sound volume within the latest version, but the game is still missing the device detection.

and... WALK TOWARDS!
